Alexis Georgacopoulos is the Director of ECAL – Ecole cantonale d’art de Lausanne (University of Art and Design Lausanne). Founded in 1821, ECAL regularly features among the world’s top 10 universities of art and design.
Mr. Georgacopoulos received his Bachelors degree in Product Design from ECAL in 1999. In 2000, he became the youngest Department Head in Switzerland when he took on the leadership of ECAL’s Industrial Design department. Mr. Georgacopoulos believes that knowledge in art and design is achieved through close links between education and real-world practice. He officially took on the Directorship of ECAL in July 2011. Since then he initiated in the award-winning "Delirious Home" project presented during the Milan Furniture Fair in April 2014 as well as the “ECAL Photography” and “ECAL Graphic Design” milestone books and subsequent exhibitions that toured internationally. In November 2016, ECAL was ranked 5th in the world for best architecture and design schools by the influential website Dezeen.
Mr. Georgacopoulos participates in international juries such as “Design of the Year” at the London Design Museum, the "Designer of the Future" award for Design Miami/ and as nominator at the Design Prize Switzerland. Amongst others, he is a member of the Cultural Council of the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie. Wallpaper* magazine named him among the "100 design world’s most powerful players".
