Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin is Head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER). He was elected to the Federal Council in 2015 after 12 years as a member of the National Council.
Mr. Parmelin received his Advanced Federal Diploma of Higher Education in Agriculture and Viticulture in 1985. He began his career as a master farmer, winemaker, and agricultural producer in Bursins (Vaud). In the early 90s, Mr. Parmelin became President of the commune of Bursins and a member of the Swiss People’s Party (SVP) of the Vaud Cantonal Parliament. In 2000, he then became President of the SVP in the Canton of Vaud.
