Thomas Pletscher

Secretary GeneralInternational Chamber of Commerce (ICC)

Thomas Pletscher is an Independent Consultant and serves as Secretary General of ICC Switzerland since 2004.
ICC Switzerland forms the bridge for internationaly-active businesses in Switzerland to the International Chamber of Commerce, the World Business Organisation. ICC was founded in 1919 with the objective to achieve “peace and prosperity through trade and investment”. In 2017, ICC was granted the formal observer status to the United Nations, as the only private organisation.
Mr. Pletscher is one of the two Swiss representatives in the ICC World Council and member of various commissions and working groups of ICC at global level.
From 1988 to 2018, he headed the Department for Regulatory Affairs and Competition Policy of economiesuisse, the Swiss Business Federation. He was member of numerous commissions and working groups at national and international level, notably within BUSINESSEUROPE and BIAC (Business at OECD). At federal level, he was member of the Swiss Competition Commission and of the Federal Expert Group on Data Policy.
Mr. Pletscher studied law at the University of Zurich. He worked in a global audit company, in an international bank, in a trading company and in an export promotion institution before joining economiesuisse.
